Lavinia Ponniah is a Malaysian-born Australian aspiring to be an abstract landscape artist. Her works are strongly influenced by the famous French photographer and environmentalist, Yann Arthus Bertrand. She recently returned from travelling through the Northern Territory in Australia and the South Island of New Zealand, spending time there taking photographs to inspire her works.
Through the artworks, using acrylic paints on canvas, sponges and spatulas, she recreates her impressions of the locations in a whirr of colour to depict places both remote and breathtaking beautiful in an effort to raise awareness to the need for their preservation.
Her first exhibition was held in September 2007 at Global Gallery in Sydney, Australia. Lavinia is currently working on a new collection.
Lavinia was born in Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia in 1977. She grew up in a small town there called Seremban and moved to Sydney at the age of 15. Though travelling regularly, she has maintained residence in Sydney ever since.
Other influences to Lavinia’s works include Picasso, Kandinsky, Dali and Klimt.”
