Gerald was born in England, and at the age of ten, migrated to Sydney and was a lawyer for 40 years. Life as a partner in a busy city law firm, together with church and community interests, as well as family responsibilities left little spare time for creative art work.

He retired from legal practice in 1998, and then his painting career began on a trip with an artists group in the Kakadu..

The colours and contours of the magical outback captivated his interest and he has been painting and learning to paint ever since. Gerald did various painting and printmaking courses at Julian Ashton Art School, the Kuring-gai Art Centre  and has done many art trips all over the land. When not travelling outback, he enjoys nothing better than the places and sights of Mosman, Balmoral and the foreshores of Sydney Harbour.

In recent months, Gerald’s art work has taken on a new turn.He has focused less on traditional landscape and more on naïve style figurative work featuring the traditions and foibles of Balmoral and Mosman. He comments light heartedly on  our culture. The style adopts bright, bold colour, imaginative and geometric shapes and quaint, often distorted figures. The works are a gentle “take” on Mosman life. This new series of work is  called “Balmorality”.

Gerald is President of the Mosman Art Society and mainly exhibits his work in the lower North Shore suburbs and northern beaches of  Sydney.
