The PADDINGTON ART PRIZE was established by Marlene Antico in 2004. This $20,000 acquisitive prize is awarded annually for a painting inspired by the Australian landscape.

An exciting addition to the Australian Arts calendar, the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE takes its place among the country’s most lucrative and highly coveted painting prizes. The prize encourages the interpretation of the landscape as a significant contemporary genre, its long tradition in Australian painting as a key contributor to our national ethos, and is a positive initiative in private patronage of the arts in Australia.

This NATIONAL ART PRIZE is open to Australian citizens and residents of 12 months or more who are over the age of eighteen. The prize has been developed to push through existing barriers caused by monetary difficulties that impede artists from showcasing their works. The prize also aims to discover new talents and invigorate the art market with iconic styles that reflect the topography and spirit of Australia.

In founding the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE, Marlene Antico has underscored her commitment to supporting contemporary Australian artists. Aware, as an art student, teacher and former gallery owner, of the financial concerns that impede many artists from devoting themselves entirely to their art practice.

“I sincerely hope that the prize money will enable artists to focus more solidly on their work and pursue their careers.” Marlene Antico

The NATIONAL FINALISTS EXHIBITIONS have met with great interest from both established collectors, including Macquarie Bank, and new collectors, the press and artists alike. This initiative within THE Australian Art Scene takes its place among this country’s most lucrative and highly coveted landscape prizes.

The Paddington Art Prizes wishes to thank in 2010 the following volunteers:
