The Australian Society of Miniature Arts (NSW) Inc will be holding their National Awards Exhibition from Friday 10^th  August to Saturday 25^th August 2012, at the Ewart Gallery, Workshop Arts Centre, 33 Laurel Street, Willoughby NSW.

This important event on the Society’s calendar is open to non-members and members.  Prizes are awarded for different categories and the entries will be judged this year by prominent Sydney artist, Giles Alexander.

The exhibition will be opened at 6.30 pm on Friday 10^th August and opening times are: Monday – Friday 9.30am – 4.30pm; Saturday 10am – 3pm; closed Sundays.

Guy will perform a watercolour demonstration at the Mosman Art Gallery on Tuesday 8 May  from 7.30pm to 9pm. Members and visitors warmly welcome. Members $8 and non Members $10 which includes a ticket for a lucky door prize draw.

I was born in Surrey, England and I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t drawing animals and exploring the natural world. After drawing my way through a zoology degree in London it became obvious that I showed much more talent as an artist than a scientist so I made the decision then to immerse myself in the art world and begin the process of painting professionally. My early work was influenced by my scientific knowledge and the skills of observation I learnt as a naturalist and these skills are still important to me. I have travelled to many different countries in search of subjects but I often find inspiration from things closer to home and am just as likely to paint something familiar as exotic. Steve Panozzo

Beginning at Sydney’s The Manly Daily in 1985 as the paper’s first “artist-in-residence”, Steve Panozzo has spent most of his 27-year career working in newspapers and magazines; for 10 years his work appeared daily in The Australian and The Daily Telegraph and now regularly contributes to a range of trade and specialty publications.

Steve’s on-the-spot talents have attracted an impressive client list and is regularly hired for major exhibitor events and conferences. His cartoons and caricatures have appeared in more than 35 books, and his work has been hung in over 40 exhibitions in Australia and overseas.

A Life Member of the Australian Cartoonists’ Association, Steve served as its President in 1992-93 and again in 1998-99. In 2010, Steve was was awarded the Jim Russell Award for his Outstanding Contribution to Australian Cartooning.

Rob Candy

Born Melbourne, 1953.  He began painting watercolours at Ku-ring-gai Arts Centre during the 1980′s with Owen Thompson, and at the Royal Art Society of New South Wales with Frederic Bates OAM.  He has a degree in Geography and this informs his analysis of and appreciation for the landscape.

Rob visited Normandy in France in 2003, and this experience led to his solo exhibition with the theme of the fisherman of Honflur, France.

He has been a featured artist in the Australian Artist magazine(October 1996, June 2002, September 2004 and November 2005).  The most recent of these essays examined his painting from Tuscany.

Member of the Australian Watercolour Institute since 2005, Associate Member of the Royal Art Society of NSW and a Member of Ku-ring-gai Art Society.

General: All Members and their friends welcome. We meet ~10am and paint to between 12md and 1pm. Bring lunch if you wish. Generally if it is wet at 9.15am it is off. The Shot Cafe has coffee and light meals.
